Welcome to Krossover Elite!
At Krossover Elite, we are driven by a clear and impactful mission. Our mission is to empower young women through the transformative power of basketball, fostering an environment where they can strive to be their best, develop resilience, and unlock their full potential. Through engaging in the sport, players will not only enhance their athletic skills but will also cultivate essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, perseverance, and communication. We believe that the lessons learned on the court extend far beyond basketball, and we aim to equip young women not only to excel in sports but also to carry these invaluable traits into every aspect of their lives.
Our program is committed to building confidence, inspiring personal growth, and fostering a strong sense of community. We provide a supportive space for athletes to push their limits, build lasting friendships, and pave the way for future success—both individually and as part of a collective team effort.
Meet the coaching staff!
Our coaching staff brings a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication to the game of basketball.
Leading the way at Krossover Elite is our CEO and Coach, Kathryn "Kat" Headspeth, a proud alumna of Long Beach Poly High School and a former standout on one of the most storied programs in the nation. Throughout her high school career, Kat built an impressive legacy—securing a state championship as a freshman, dominating the Moore League with four consecutive titles, capturing a CIF Championship as a senior, and contributing to a national championship-winning team. Her experience also includes competing at the highest youth level on the prestigious EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League) circuit, where she sharpened her skills against the best competition in the country.
However, Coach Kat’s path to success was not without adversity. During a semifinal playoff game in her senior year, she suffered a devastating ACL tear—a setback that could have ended many athletic careers. Instead, Kat showed extraordinary resilience, undergoing a determined recovery and continuing her basketball journey at the collegiate level. She first competed at a nationally ranked junior college in Kansas, before transferring to East Los Angeles College, where she continued to excel against top-tier talent and further developed her leadership on and off the court.
After concluding her playing career, Coach Kat discovered that her true passion lay in giving back to the game through coaching and mentoring. She poured her heart into working with multiple youth programs and eventually launched her own player development business, where she focused on helping young athletes unlock their full potential. Her deep understanding of the game, combined with her relentless work ethic, leadership, and unwavering dedication to personal and athletic growth, makes her an invaluable pillar of our program.
Today, Coach Kat embodies everything Krossover Elite stands for—grit, resilience, excellence, and empowerment. Her journey serves as an inspiration not just for the athletes she trains, but for everyone striving to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness.
As Director and Coach, Shemekia Brown brings a wealth of experience both as a player and a mentor. A standout athlete at Gahr High School, Shemekia went on to play Division I basketball at San Jose State University, where she made an immediate impact—starting all four years of her collegiate career. After her playing days, Shemekia naturally transitioned into coaching, beginning by leading her sons' and daughter's AAU teams. Her passion for teaching and developing young athletes quickly grew, leading her to form her own AAU team, where she continued to coach her son with dedication and purpose.
Following the birth of her twins, Shemekia chose to focus more intentionally on coaching, dedicating countless hours to supporting her children's athletic journeys while deepening her commitment to the sport. Over the years, she has not only shaped the athletic abilities of her own children but has also inspired and mentored countless young athletes through her positive influence. Her deep dedication to basketball is equaled only by her passion for empowering and guiding young women, helping them develop both on and off the court. With her blend of firsthand playing experience, coaching expertise, and a heart for mentorship, Shemekia is a driving force behind the success and growth of our program.
Aiyana Barnes, our Co-Founder and Treasurer, is a proud graduate of Long Beach Poly High School, where she played alongside Coach Kat and Coach Jasmine. Together, they contributed to the school's historic CIF State Championship victory, solidifying their place in one of the most successful teams in Long Beach Poly history. Aiyana’s talent and competitive spirit carried her beyond high school as she competed in multiple national invitational tournaments, gaining valuable experience against some of the best players in the country.
She continued her basketball journey at Loyola Marymount University before transferring to UC Riverside, where she completed her Division I career while maintaining a strong academic focus. Aiyana earned her Bachelor's degree in Business and later achieved a Master’s degree in Information Technology, combining her on-court discipline with sharp business and organizational skills. This powerful blend of athletic expertise and business acumen has been instrumental in ensuring the growth and success of Krossover Elite.
In addition to her achievements as a player and administrator, Aiyana has also made her mark as a coach. She began by coaching her younger brother’s basketball team, leading them through a highly successful season and further solidifying her passion for mentorship and player development. With her deep understanding of the game, leadership abilities, and commitment to excellence, Aiyana plays a crucial role in shaping both the athletic and organizational future of our program.
Our coach, Jasmine Jones, is a former Division I basketball standout and a passionate leader whose energy and love for the game are matched only by her commitment to uplifting others. A 2017 graduate of Long Beach Poly High School, Jasmine continued her basketball career at Loyola Marymount University, where she secured her place in the school's history books—ranking in the all-time top 10 in scoring, top 5 in rebounds, and setting the record for most games played.
Beyond the court, Jasmine earned her undergraduate degree in Sociology and a master's degree in Business Management, blending a deep understanding of people with strong leadership skills. She thrives in team environments, bringing positivity, drive, and a genuine passion for helping others succeed. As a coach at both the JV and varsity high school levels, Jasmine is dedicated to developing not just athletes, but well-rounded individuals.
